Biden and Harris Tour North Carolina to Mark ACA Anniversary, Attack GOP Health Care Agenda

Biden aims to highlight differences with Trump on health care in North Carolina

President Biden and Vice President Harris traveled to North Carolina to mark the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. During their visit, they criticized the Republicans’ health care agenda, particularly their attempts to limit abortion and reduce coverage.

Biden spoke in Raleigh, a state that his campaign sees as a potential victory in the upcoming election after losing to Trump in 2020. He used the occasion to attack Trump and the Republicans for their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Biden pointed out that several times Trump and Republicans tried to repeal the act without success. He also mentioned a budget proposal from the Republican Study Committee that proposed cuts to entitlement programs, including Medicare and Social Security.

Biden emphasized the importance of moving forward together, protecting democracy, ensuring health care as a right, and restoring the freedom to choose. He criticized Trump’s remarks about taking credit for ending Roe v. Wade and his controversial comments about punishing women who have abortions.

North Carolina is expected to be a critical battleground in the upcoming election, with both presidential and gubernatorial races at stake. Recent polling showed Biden narrowing Trump’s lead in North Carolina from nine percentage points to six percentage points.

The visit coincided with an important milestone for healthcare reform in North Carolina, where Medicaid expansion has been implemented since 2018 under former Governor Roy Cooper’s leadership.

Biden highlighted this achievement during his speech by saying “North Carolina has shown us what can happen when we work together towards progress.” He praised Cooper’s decision to expand Medicaid coverage in North Carolina, which has helped millions of people gain access to healthcare services they couldn’t afford before.

Overall, Biden used his trip to North Carolina not only as an opportunity to criticize Trump’s health care agenda but also as a chance to showcase how Democrats can work towards expanding access to healthcare for all Americans.
