Bridge Collapse: A Tragic Accident Leaves 8 Dead and Diverts International Supply Chains”.

What we know so far about the Baltimore bridge collapse: reminiscent of an action movie

In the early hours of Monday, a dramatic accident occurred on a kilometer-long bridge in Maryland, USA. The middle portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in just twenty seconds, causing chaos and tragedy. Around 1:30 a.m. local time, the freighter Dali veered off course near the bridge, resulting in the collapse.

The incident claimed the lives of eight workers and at least seven cars that were on the bridge at the time of the collapse. However, miraculously, all crew members on the ship were unharmed. The cause of the collapse was ruled out as an act of terrorism by authorities, with the Baltimore FBI stating that it was not intentional.

The incident drew international attention and condolences from US President Joe Biden. The vessel, part of Danish shipping company Maersk, lost propulsion before colliding with the bridge due to power failure. Two workers were rescued from the water, while six others remained missing along with their vehicles that fell into the water.

Divers continued to search for survivors in the cold water but with diminishing hopes due to low water temperature. The collapse of Francis Scott Key Bridge was unexpected given its good technical condition, and it has significant implications for US automotive supply chains. Major car companies like Ford and General Motors had to redirect parts shipments through other ports due to closure of port of Baltimore for rescue operations further complicating their operations heavily reliant on this port for their operations.

As authorities continue to investigate this tragic accident and work towards recovering any remaining survivors or vehicles from water, we express our deepest sympathies for those affected by this incident and pray for their recovery or find them alive safely underwater until rescue teams reach them
