Capturing the Stunning Lunar Eclipse: A Closer Look at Our Cosmic Neighbor, the Moon

Science Spotlight: The Moon

On Monday, March 25th, a breathtaking lunar eclipse graced the sky. Our intern, Alexandra, along with her sister, Ariana, seized the opportunity to capture stunning photos of the moon using their telescope. The pictures turned out so well that one of them was even used in this thumbnail. Thank you, Ariana, for your incredible shots!

Despite its beauty, how much do we really know about the moon? The moon was formed as a result of a collision that took place around 4.5 billion years ago. Interestingly, Earth is not the only planet in our solar system that has moons. For more information on this topic, you can check out Jeff St. Clair’s article.

Here are some discussion questions to ponder:

1. What do you believe the moon is composed of?

2. Have you ever observed the moon during the day? If so, what did you notice?

3. If given the chance to travel to the moon, what items would you bring along with you?
