Exploring Science and Writing: An Engaging Event at Glenmont Elementary School

Visit from Science Author and Educator at Glenmont

Last week, Glenmont Elementary School was thrilled to host science author and educator Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen for two presentations that catered to different grade levels. The younger students (K-2) were fascinated by the topic of worm anatomy and the importance of revision in writing. To enhance their learning experience, they got to observe live worms in containers, which sparked their curiosity about earthworm science.

On the other hand, the third through fifth-grade students focused on nonfiction writing research strategies using examples from Dr. Wheeler-Toppen’s book Dog and Cat Science Unleashed! This interactive session inspired them to see research as a fun and vital part of the writing process.

The success of this event was made possible by Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen, Glenmont Library Media Specialist Angela Datri, and the Glenmont PTA. The students and staff at Glenmont Elementary School were grateful for the opportunity to learn from an expert in science education and writing.
