As part of a four-part series, “Follow the Money,” AHCJ and Investigative Reporters and Editors present a webinar to equip journalists with the tools they need to report on the big business of health care. Karl Stark, Director of Content Strategy & Editor in Residence at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, will lead the session using AHCJ’s hospitalfinances.org site and other resources. The Follow the Money series is free for all journalists thanks to the generous support of the NIHCM Foundation.

Karl Stark is an experienced journalist who has dedicated his career to encouraging transparency and accountability in healthcare. He is currently Director of Content Strategy & Editor in Residence at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, where he focuses on encouraging LDI Fellows to write for the public. Before joining LDI, he worked for more than three decades at The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he served as Health Editor, Business News Editor and National/Foreign Editor among other positions. His reporting on the bankrupt Allegheny health system helped lead to indictments against top executives. He also served as President of the Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ), an organization that supports health reporters and editors across North America.

In addition to his work with AHCJ, Karl Stark is also a co-author of their “Covering Quality in Health Care – A Resource Guide for Journalists” and leads a session on covering hospital finances at their annual meeting. With his extensive experience in journalism and healthcare policy, Karl Stark is well equipped to guide journalists through this important topic during their Follow The Money webinar series.
