From Video Game to Theme Park: Saudi Arabia’s Dragon Ball Z Adventure

The first Dragon Ball Z theme park in the world is being constructed in Saudi Arabia.

In Cologne, Germany, visitors flocked to the 2019 Gamescom gaming trade fair to try out the latest version of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. The popular video game franchise drew in crowds eager to experience its newest features and gameplay elements. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is planning the development of its first-ever Dragon Ball Z theme park as part of its Qiddiya project aimed at enhancing tourism and diversifying the economy.

The Dragon Ball Z theme park will consist of seven different areas inspired by locations from the original anime series. With over 30 themed rides, including five world-first attractions, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Dragon Ball Z like never before. One standout ride, the Shenron roller coaster, will soar to heights of 230 feet, providing an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers.

The collaboration between Japan-based manga producer Toei Animation and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s foundation, MiSK, is set to create anime movies that will captivate audiences worldwide. The kingdom’s investment in video games and anime reflects a growing interest in these forms of entertainment.

Qiddiya City in Riyadh aims to offer a wide range of attractions including golf courses, theme parks and hotels as part of a multibillion-dollar project with ambitions to host 600,000 residents and millions of visitors annually. As part of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious initiative to diversify the economy and boost tourism aims to attract 150 million tourists annually by 2030. With record-breaking numbers already achieved, the kingdom is well on its way to becoming a global hub for tourism and cultural experiences.
