UK Government’s Science and Technology Framework: A One-Year Evaluation of Effectiveness in Promoting R&D Activities

Construction of Science and Technology Framework Delayed

In March 2023, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology introduced the Science and Technology Framework as a key step towards solidifying the UK’s position as a science and technology leader. While the framework may not have garnered widespread attention, it outlined a comprehensive strategy to incorporate science and innovation throughout various government sectors.

One year after its establishment, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is assessing the effectiveness of its plan to integrate research and development (R&D) practices across the government. The progress and impact of this initiative are currently being evaluated to determine its success in promoting R&D activities within the government. Researchers and policy experts are closely monitoring the outcomes of this framework to assess its effectiveness in advancing scientific advancements and innovations across the UK.

With 10 areas of action identified, each department was tasked with specific responsibilities to contribute to this overarching goal. The framework emphasized collaboration between departments and stakeholders, providing funding opportunities for R&D projects, and promoting innovation through policies that support entrepreneurship and start-ups.
