UNI Group: Adapting to Challenges and Expanding in the Face of Hybrid Markets.

Unimarkt branches transitioning into franchises

The UNI Group faced several challenges this year, including the closure of unprofitable online shops and changes to the schedules and operations of UNIBox locations due to a ruling by the Constitutional Court. Despite these challenges, the group achieved impressive total sales of around 474 million euros in the financial year 2023/24, representing a promising increase from the previous year.

One of the biggest challenges faced by the UNI Group was the concept of autonomous UNIBoxes, which proved unsuccessful and resulted in their closure. However, know-how gained from this venture will be utilized in Nah&Frisch hybrid markets within the group. With a total of 23 hybrid locations at the end of the financial year, an expansion plan for 16 more locations is already underway for the upcoming year.

Unimarkt has also embraced the hybrid concept with two locations currently operating and sees it as a viable solution amidst challenges in finding employees. The UNIGroup consists of UNIWholesale, UNILogistik, Unimarkt Handels GmbH, and 50% ownership of convenience supplier unik, which achieved sales of 87 million euros in the previous financial year. With around 3,100 employees committed to sustainable growth and strategic expansion, it’s clear that this group is determined to continue thriving despite any obstacles they may face.
